It is 2017! I cannot help but plan, revamp, and make a few changes, so I can make this year even better than last year. Aren’t we all setting goals for 2017? Well, I hope so! Because setting goals and having a vision board are great ways to take an action in our lives.

New Year doesn’t mean new me. Change is not always drastic, but it can be small. It’s great to always be making tiny changes or adjustments to ourselves and our businesses because there is always more to grow and to more to learn.
I am thinking of new ways to revamp The Mindful Rise in 2017 because I want to continue to get amazing content to all of you. I still consider myself to be fairly new to blogging, and I have been a bit stubborn to change. First I will talk about a few changes I want to make this year, and if you stick around until the end, I will give my 4 tools to help you make the best changes this year.
I was reluctant to define my niche because I thought it was enough to call myself a lifestyle blogger and blog about everything I am passionate about. Most people say you need to define your niche and some people will advocate that it is not important. I jumped on the latter side of that because I did not want to limit myself. I thought I had so much to say, and everyone would want to hear it even if I jumped from natural hair tips to my dance stories to a little financial advice. There would be something that everyone could enjoy, but I didn’t realize I was also turning people away.
After following my biggest blogging inspiration, Melyssa Griffin, I realized I have to let go of that. I decided to focus my blog on self development and financial education. Two topics I am passionate about and I know young people can benefit from. Sadly, that means you won’t see anymore of my hair journey in the new year, but I’ll still be documenting this on my Instagram. I’ll also limit my dance posts too, but there’ll always be dance photos on my Instagram.
I want people to know what to expect from The Mindful Rise. Because if people know what to expect they won’t be surprised when I launch new things, like my email course, The Ultimate Guide to Managing Your Finances in 2017, or my eCourse because it will be right in line with what I preach every week.
I chose self development and financial education because I think those are two essential aspects to being a girl boss or entrepreneur. A girl boss is a woman who works hard and knows her worth. She does not settle for mediocrity because she knows she is destined for greatness.
People come to my site to find inspiration and the motivation to take their lives or careers to the next level. We should not accept or settle for a mediocre life or financial troubles because we are worth so much more than that.
Cheers to 2017!
Two things I want to do in 2017 that I didn’t do enough of in 2016 is read and listen to podcasts. And guess what? Both things go hand in hand with self development or I also like to think of it as self empowerment.
My goal is to read at least one book for pleasure each month and listen to one podcast weekly. My excuse in 2016 was that I couldn’t balance books for school and books for pleasure. The issue was that I didn’t make time to do both, but reading for pleasure and especially reading books that inspire and empower me are going to help me become the person I want to be. So, there should be no excuse to not make time.
I recently got into Myleik Teele‘s podcasts. She is the founder of the monthly subscription box curlBOX, and she’s absolutely amazing. I can’t believe I didn’t listen to her podcasts before! I listen to them mostly when I am at the gym now and I am always so inspired by everything she has to say. I also follow all of her social media handles because she is literally the best.
Her latest podcast was Books To Get Your LIFE Together in 2017. Myleik began the podcast talking about how she needs to make a few changes in 2017 because there were things she could have done better 2016. So needless to say even a successful entrpereneur is constantly making adjustments to herself.
Myleik and her friend Toni gave their favorite books on the following topics:
- Get Motivated and Inspired
- Get Disciplined and Stop Procrastinating
- Get Pass Your Personal blocks
- Start Your Own Business
- Get Spiritually Centered,
- Lose Weight and Get in Shape
- Build Your Circle and Strengthen Your Friendships
Myleik and Toni both gave books and their favorite quotes from all the books for ALL those topics! I was snapping my fingers and taking mental notes the entire podcast. And then at the end they shared their 2017 goals.
I am definitely one step closer to my reading goals because now I know what books I want to read.
How can you make the right changes to have your best year ever?
Reflect. Evaluate. Plan. Take Action
Reflect: Look back on last year, and see what worked and what did not work. Create a list of what you are proud of that happened in 2016 and see how you can continue to expand in those areas this year. Take a look at what did not work and why it didn’t work.
Evaluate: Why didn’t it work? Is there something you could have done better to make it work or maybe you were looking at it from the wrong angle. Mistakes help us grow, but try not to take the same mistakes twice.
Plan: Set definite goals and have a vision of how you are going to make your dreams come true this year. It may sound cheesy, but it is worth it. If you found yourself settling last year, then make sure you make something of your dreams this year.
Take Action: Finally, you need to actualize your dreams. Make them a reality by taking the actionable steps to moving them from the page in your journal to reality.
Change is good and inevitable. As we grow, we are always changing. If you are one to be resistant or stubborn to change, I say to welcome it. Remember, it doesn’t have to be drastic. Sometimes the biggest change come in the tiniest packages.
What are some changes you are making to yourself or your biz this year?
