I have officially entered a new era in my life: My Twenties!
Birthdays have always been magical, meaningful occasions for me, but this year was different. Turning 20 yesterday was magical yes, but it was much more of a mental blossoming than just a joyful turn up.
I’ve been blessed to live two decades, and I am officially no longer a teenager. I have entered young adulthood, and the question arises: So, what happens now?
Twenty means I want to start working towards what I am meant to accomplish on Earth. In teenage years, we often wait and ponder on what we hope to be. We have role models, and we set goals. Then there comes a time when you have to stop waiting and start putting in action. We have to become those role models and start checking those goals off of our lists.
Twenty surely embodies youth and time, but when you think you have too much time it is easy to get complacent. My role models were never complacent; they were motivated and conscientious. I want to be successful, and I know the only path to becoming who I am meant to be is through action. Take Action!
5 Ways to Take Action In Your Twenties
1. Visualize It
Many of us are visual learners, and it helps to see our goals in front of us. Create a vision board. I like to include text and photos, but this can change depending on the person. Place it where you can see it everyday so it reminds you of why you are working so hard. Be creative!
2. Write it Down
Not only is visualizing it helpful, but keep a journal. I know keeping a journal sounds a lot like a diary to most people, and it took me a while to get into this too. But, once I started I realized its one of the most helpful things. Instead of keeping all of your gems inside of your head, write them down so there is no chance that you will forget them! It is very therapeutic to write down your thoughts; I know I feel more stressed when I keep all my emotions jumbled in my head.
3. Connect with Friends
They say your circle is one of the most important parts of your success, and it is true. The people you surround yourself with can help you get to the next level because they also share the aspirations you do. Also connect with friends who have similar goals as you and create with them! If you have an amazing idea, but you do not know where to begin connect with a friend and collaborate! You will be surprised how many beautiful, ground breaking ideas you guys can come up with. I’ve recently began collaborating with my childhood best friend(15 years), and we are so excited to expand and put our ideas in action.
4. 10 Year Plan
People love to live in the moment, and I admire that. However, it is important to have a vision of where you want to see yourself in 10 years and how you plan to get there. For me, starting to fully cultivate my thoughts at 20 was essential because I have a vision of my 30 year old self. I see her being financially independent and devoid of the lock of the traditional 9-5 job. You can start with where you see yourself in one day, then 5 years, and then build to 10 years. You may or may not live out this plan, but it is good to have an idea of the future you want to have.
5. Financial Education
One of the major things that hold young people back are finances. We finish school with so much debt, that we cannot succeed with our life plans because the money is not there. Some young people fail to make student debt a priority and they carelessly use credit cards. Financial issues can lead to stress and mediocracy. We get stuck at a mediocre place because we don’t have the money to invest in our futures, and that makes me terribly sad. The 5 year window after college should be a time of great exploration and risk taking. Start that business you always wanted to or travel the world for 2 years indulging in new cultures and languages. Financial education starts early, and the more we understand our finances the more we can take charge of our futures.

Even if you did not start at 20, I have learned it is not when you start or how you started, but how you finish. We all have different, unique paths, but ultimately the successful gems finish strong. Nonetheless, I want to remind all that we cannot be complacent and keep waiting for the right time. Start now! Take Action! Discover and unleash all that you were meant to achieve!
