Why I Started A Blog

Why in the world would a dancer in college start a blog? It seems so random to many of my friends, especially because they never heard me talk about blogging until I published it. To be honest making a blog was a bit impulsive, which I do sometimes when I come across a great idea. I get right on board without thinking twice. I truly didn’t know anything about the blogging world until I made one, and boy is it huge and amazing! I can’t believe I missed out on this network of eye-opening information and people. Anyway despite my ignorance, I saw an episode of the Today Show with Kathie Lee & Hoda, and there was a segment with 3 successful bloggers. I remember being immediately pulled into these amazing women stories, and how they made a living on the internet. I didn’t know such a world existed, but I wanted to be apart of it too.
Having intellectual, motivating conversations is something that occurred regularly in all of my intimate circles. I think it is so important to surround yourself with positive energy and people because they have such an affect on the way you act and think. Since I was fortunate to have these types of friends my mind is constantly budding with thoughts and ideas. I originally wanted to create a financial blog for Millennials with my best friend because this summer I was heavily inspired by the financial books I was reading. But when I thought about financial posts, dance came to mind too, and then hair, and then just life posts. So, I realized I have so much more to say. I love venting and talking to my friends, but I thought it would be amazing to try to reach a larger audience. There is so much content on the internet, but not all of it is helpful for the budding young mind. I wanted to create a site that a young girl from Brooklyn could come across and really benefit from.
At first it was more about creating a space that I owned, it would be my first step towards being an entrepreneur. I am still trying to figure out what that means, and where it will take me. But, it was also about finding another source of income. Dance is my first passion, but I don’t want to limit my sources of income to one thing. Moreover, artists aren’t the highest paid people in the world, sadly. But, like I said in my social media post, we have resources to create multiple sources of income. Blogging is surely one of them. It was inspiring that those women were able to monetize a platform that they simply wrote about their passions. Now, I know blogging is far from simple, and creating a successful blog is not a walk in the park.
Creating a blog was actually super easy! I used bluehost to buy my domain, and it was pretty smooth sailing from there. If you link the image below you can look into creating your own site!
I am an advocate for buying your own domain name because it is yours! When you think about it we own close to nothing online now. Our social media accounts for example, belong to the creators and they have ultimate control. A blog or a website when you purchase the domain is completely yours! You have sole control over it, and that leadership of your digital identity is amazing!
Like I said earlier, I did not research other bloggers before I made a blog. However, investing my time and money to reading other people’s blogs, eBooks, and joining their email lists has really helped me understand how to become a better blogger. I would not have been able to reach more than 1,000 views in my second month blogging without the tips of successful bloggers. The first eBook I purchased was Abby‘s Building A Framework: The Ultimate Blogging Handbook. This eBook is amazing, and it took me so much longer than expected to finish it because it is full of so much information. There is a lot unknown to a newbie blogger, and the only way to find out is to invest and learn from people who have been blogging for a while. I had no idea about plugins, link parties, and affiliate marketing until I read Abby’s book. Now, I feel so much more prepared to grow my blog! Click on the image below to learn more!
I think more people should start blogs. They are amazing platforms to express your ideas, and you would amazed at how many people out there want to hear what you have to say. It is an opportunity to build or expand your online presence, which can be advantageous when applying for jobs. In addition, it can make you money! You can earn a substantial income from blogging. Who does not love that?

I hope I answered some peoples’ curiosities as to why I created a blog. The Mindful Rise was created to motivate and inform young people. We can be smart with our finances and pay off our debt. We can overcome the stress of college and enter our career paths with confidence. We can grow healthy hair. We can remain motivated even when life throws us hard balls.
